Doug moved to San Luis Obispo in 1979 and started a corporate fitness business here after graduating from Cal Poly in 1982.  He moved the business to San Diego in 1984, and later started law school at California Western School of Law.   Doug began practicing business law in San Francisco and transitioned to a litigation practice at a firm in Los Angeles (Century City).  In 1993, he achieved one of his goals by moving his family back to San Luis Obispo.  He started his own law firm with office space in the J.P. Andrews building, and has handled cases in state and federal courts throughout the State of California, representing plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation matters.  When he retired in 2026, he concluded his law firm career settling cases on a national level as counsel to transportation insurance companies and self-insured businesses.  

Doug is known for obtaining positive results in settling cases because of his 36 years of experience with a variety of civil litigation issues, excellent people skills, his ability to create a collaborative working environment, and his endless energy exploring every conceivable option to resolve cases.   Doug completed the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution program at the Pepperdine/Caruso School of Law in 2024.
